The early American society is termed egalitarian, which was considered to be free from the desires of wealth and needs. From the time of the American Revolution to the Constitutional convention (1776-1787), the landowners, merchants, and bankers had a strong influence on the political and economic life and they controlled the local newspapers which presented the interests of commerce. Out of the thirteen states, twelve states allowed voting rights to property-owing white males who were estimated to be ten percent of the total adult population. All indigenous First Nation People, people who were of African descent, Women, and white males who did not have property were excluded from voting.
